I am blessed:

On this Veteran's Day that I can remember my Grandpa Rittenour who served in WWII in the Army and earned the rank of Tec 5 which I have learned is the same as a Sargent.

Growing up when I would study The Great Wars and ask Granddaddy about his experience in combat he would not want to talk about it.

Then when I started as an Aide I was helping in a class where we were talking about The Great Wars and suddenly he wanted to share with me about his time in combat. He gave me one of his service metals and some coins that he got while in service to show the kids.

I will always remember that as much as he loved John Wayne we were never allowed to watch the movies dealing with WWI and WWII. Granddaddy said it was a painful reminder of what he had saw during his time in the military.

I remember Granddaddy showing me once his army uniform and how impressed I was with it.

I am now blessed to have the memories of Granddaddy's stories to me of his military service. I am blessed today that he was able to come home safe and sound to later marry my Grannie and build the life that he had.
