I am blessed for Summer Break. My sister use to complain at me when I would get the Summer off, but now I think she has come to learn why I and so many others in the Education sector need Summer Break.

Let me explain why we in Education need a Summer Break. Here are just a few reasons.

1. To Catch up on sleep: Why you might ask. Well, it is really simple. We loose sleep at night during the school year. We loose sleep over students we know who need to be in school because their home life is not the best or students that we know are struggling. We loose sleep worrying about lesson, test, and more. Summer is a time to re-charge from the school year.

2. To Spend Time With Family: Often during the school year we don't get time to spend with our families in the evening. We are busy grading papers, going to after school meetings, taking our kids here and there. It is nice to get to have quality time with family.

3. To Catch Up At Home: There are lots of things at home that can't get done during the school year so they are put off till Summer.

4. To Re-Stock Their Classrooms: Teachers and Aides spend a lot of their own money on supplies for the classroom. That means that over the Summer they shop for the best deals to get supplies for their classrooms. This is because often times parents don't donate because they can't. Advice to Parents: Buy all the supplies on the supply list so teachers and aides don't have to.

5, So Classrooms Can Be Cleaned: During the Summer is the time that the Janitors clean the buildings. They wax floors and more. Lots of this can't be done while kids are in the building.

6. Professional Development: Often times teachers need to take classes in the summer to keep their certification valid. That sometimes means going out of town. Also too sometimes school districts/counties hold Professional Development opportunities  during the Summer so teachers can get trained so that they can do the best job possible the next school year.

I am blessed that I get time off work. However, it goes by too fast. It really needs to slow down.
